Our Mission
At Aasra, we believe no soul should be left behind on the street — hungry, hurt, or forgotten.
Every day, countless dogs, pups, and wild creatures survive on the edges of our cities — unseen, unloved, and often feared. We refuse to look away. With compassion as our compass, we rescue the injured, rehabilitate the abandoned, and give a safe haven to those who have only ever known hardship.
Our mission is simple: to protect the Indian dogs, pups, and wildlife that call our streets home. Too often, they are passed over for their looks or misunderstood for their behaviour — and so people buy, when a loyal, loving companion was waiting right outside their door. We are here to change that story, one rescue at a time.
And our work does not end at the street. We free wild animals held in captivity, returning them to the forests and skies where they belong.
Because every life deserves more than survival. Every life deserves a home.
Who we are
Our work
Aasra — The Helping Hands was born not in an office, but on the ground — from grief, and from a promise. Founded in Lucknow by Charu Khare in memory of her father, Aasra exists for one reason: to be the voice of those who have none.
We answer every call. Injured, abandoned, trapped, or forgotten — street animals, birds, reptiles, and wildlife held in captivity — every life that reaches us finds the same thing: someone who came, and who stayed.
We rescue, we heal, we rehabilitate, and we return. Those who need a home find one. Those who belong in the wild go back to the forests and skies that were always theirs. And those who have known nothing but cruelty find, for the first time, what kindness feels like.
Over 20,000 lives saved — and not one of them a number. Each was a soul that someone else had stopped seeing.
This work runs on people like you. It runs on fuel for rescue vehicles, on medicines, on surgeries, on food, on the courage to drive out at 2 am when someone calls. It runs on donations, and on the belief that no one — human or animal — should suffer alone.
